Eva Zaïcik
Mezzo-Soprano
Very early recognized for the beauty of her timbre, her long, expressive voice, and her stage presence, Eva Zaïcik has established herself as one of the most prominent vocal artists of her generation.
In 2018, she was named Lyric Revelation at the Victoires de la Musique Classique, won Second Prize at the prestigious Queen Elisabeth Competition in Belgium, and also won the Concours Voix Nouvelles. These distinctions confirmed an already remarkable career, in which she collaborates with renowned conductors and performs in leading venues.
She has worked with William Christie (notably as a distinguished member of Le Jardin des Voix 2018), Vincent Dumestre (Dido in Dido and Aeneas; Lybie in Lully’s Phaéton), Hervé Niquet (Caliste in Lully’s Les Amants Magnifiques), Christophe Rousset (Third Lady in Mozart’s The Magic Flute), Philippe Herreweghe (extensive European tour with Mozart’s Requiem), and Laurence Equilbey (again Mozart’s Requiem for a major French tour staged by Yoann Bourgeois). She has also collaborated with other major conductors such as Leonardo García Alarcón, Marco Guidarini, Emmanuelle Haïm, René Jacobs, Cornelius Meister, and Alain Altinoglu.
Recently, she performed La Speranza in Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo with I Gemelli under the co-direction of Emiliano Gonzalez Toro at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, Sélyzette in Dukas’ Ariane et Barbe-Bleue under Pascal Rophé at the Théâtre du Capitole de Toulouse, and the title role in Bizet’s Carmen at the Théâtre Impérial de Compiègne.
Eva excels both in opera and in concert. She has performed Berio’s Folk Songs and excerpts from Mahler’s Kindertotenlieder with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra at the Festival de Saint-Denis. She opened the season with the Aalborg Symphony Orchestra in Denmark in Berlioz’s Les Nuits d’été under Michael Schønwandt, before touring Brazil with the same program. She regularly performs with Le Poème Harmonique, including the recording of Cadmus et Hermione at the Opéra Royal de Versailles and concerts devoted to Bellerofonte Castaldi at the Palais Farnese and Salle Gaveau. She also participated in Anamorfosi released in 2019 on Alpha.
An eclectic artist passionate about all forms of expression, she actively engages with contemporary music, creating works such as Ahmed Essyad’s Cœur étoilé with the Quatuor Tana at the Aix-en-Provence Festival in 2015 and the role of Nelly in Betsy Jolas’ Illiade l’Amour in 2016, as well as several pieces by Vincent Bouchot.
She has been invited to perform on numerous stages in France and abroad, including the Philharmonie de Paris, Aix-en-Provence, Chorégies d’Orange, Avignon, Oude Muziek Utrecht, Opéra Royal de Versailles, Festival Messiaen, Diaghilev Festival in Perm, Auditorio Nacional Madrid, Tchaikovsky Concert Hall, Barbican Centre and Royal Albert Hall in London, Seoul, and more, under the baton of conductors such as Leonardo García Alarcón, Marco Guidarini, René Jacobs, Cornelius Meister, and Alain Altinoglu.
Her operatic repertoire includes roles such as Ottavia (L’Incoronazione di Poppea, Monteverdi), Proserpina (L’Orfeo, Monteverdi), Melibea (Il viaggio a Reims, Rossini), Farnace (Mitridate, Mozart), Cherubino (Le Nozze di Figaro, Mozart), Judith (A Kékszakállú herceg vára, Bartók), Diane à la Houppe (Les Aventures du Roi Pausole, Honegger), and Ernesto (Il Mondo della Luna, Haydn) with the Atelier Lyrique de l’Opéra de Paris.
The 2019–2020 season highlighted the diversity of her repertoire. At the opera, she performed Paulina and Milovzor in Tchaikovsky’s The Queen of Spades at the Opéras of Nice and Toulon in an exceptional production by Olivier Py. The remainder of the season was heavily disrupted by the health crisis: she was scheduled to make her New York debut at the Armory with Ensemble Pygmalion in Monteverdi’s Vespers of the Virgin, staged by Pierre Audi, and then tour with William Christie and Les Arts Florissants for a Handel arias recital. She was also set to perform at the Festival de Gstaad with Les Talens Lyriques in The Magic Flute.
For the 2020–2021 season, she reunited with Le Consort and Justin Taylor for recitals, notably at Salle Gaveau, with a new program devoted to the Royal Academy of Music in London (Handel, Ariosti, Bononcini), which was recorded for Alpha at the end of 2020 following the success of their first album Venez Chère Ombre, awarded a Choc Classica and the Choice of France Musique. She created a program around Louvre music with Les Ombres at the Festival d’Ambronay before rejoining Emmanuelle Haïm and Le Concert d’Astrée for a recital of French cantatas at the Opéra de Lille.
In November, she joined Philippe Herreweghe for a major European tour with Beethoven’s Missa Solemnis, followed by Saint-Saëns’ Oratorio de Noël in Strasbourg. At the opera, she performed Olga in Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin at the Capitole de Toulouse. She continues her collaboration with Philippe Herreweghe in Bach’s Mass in B minor at the Salzburg Festival and reprises Mozart’s Requiem on a European tour. In the meantime, she will perform the title role in Bizet’s Carmen with Miroirs Étendus in various French cities.
In spring, she will make her debut at the Vienna Konzerthaus in Mendelssohn’s Paulus before rejoining Le Poème Harmonique for a tour of Vivaldi’s Nisi Dominus, which will be recorded.
