Thibaut Roussel
Lute
After studying classical guitar and sound engineering, he specialized in the performance of early music, studying the theorbo, historical guitars, and Renaissance and Baroque lutes at the Versailles Conservatory in the class of Benjamin Perrot.
Always passionate about French musical heritage of the 17th and 18th centuries, he now focuses his musical activity on the rediscovery of forgotten composers. He performs as a soloist and continuo player with specialized ensembles such as Ensemble Correspondances (Sébastien Daucé), Pygmalion (Raphaël Pichon), L’Escadron Volant de la Reine, Le Poème Harmonique (Vincent Dumestre), Le Centre de Musique Baroque de Versailles (Olivier Schneebeli), the ensemble La Rêveuse (Benjamin Perrot and Florence Bolton), Théâtre de l’Incrédule (Benjamin Lazar), as well as with violist Robin Pharo, singer Marc Mauillon, and mezzo-soprano Stéphanie d’Oustrac.
Particularly interested in contemporary music and its performance on historical instruments, he has premiered works written specifically for the theorbo and members of the lute and guitar family in various recitals and festivals (Montpellier, Versailles…).
